Treatment Options For Peripheral Neuropathy

What Does Peripheral Neuropathy Feel Like?

  • Pins and needles
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Pain in feet or hands
  • Burning sensation
  • Can’t feel the ground

Peripheral neuropathy has many available treatment options depending on the underlying cause and the severity. Peripheral neuropathy damage that has occurred as a result of a systematic disease is often much more difficult to treat than simply having the patient live healthier. For neuropathy that is not inherited, it is possible to control the symptoms while working to eliminate the root cause to prevent more damage from occurring. Here are the medical treatment options for those suffering from any form of peripheral neuropathy.

Physician Monitored Wellness

Physicians will help craft a workout and diet regime to be followed in order to achieve better health. The body will be able to better regenerate the nerves that are damaged and timely treat the wounds of chronic medical conditions. By adopting healthy habits you can achieve a better quality of life.

Anesthetic Blocks & Electric Cell Signaling

Plasmapheresis

This is a procedure where a sample of blood is removed to have the antibodies and other immune cells removed before the blood is re-introduced into the patient. The process is sterile and self-contained and automated with the use of specialized equipment called the plasmapheresis device. The blood passes from the tube to the device that filters the plasma, platelets and whole blood. The platelets and whole blood enters through the device and back to the donor, while the plasma passes through a tube connected to a sterile blood bag when being filtered. This procedure is an effort to cleanse the blood and prevent an auto-immune response. For those that are suffering from diabetic neuropathy, it is ideal to retain strict control of the blood glucose levels in order to diminish the neuropathic symptoms.

Prescription Medication

When patients have severe chronic peripheral neuropathy pain, a number of options are available and is typically combated with a number of analgesics in addition to prescribed pain killers.
