Get an Accurate Back Pain Diagnosis at CRPM

Back pain are common amongst all ages whether we like it or not. Depending on the type of exercises or work we do, back pain can sprout out of nowhere and when left untreated, it can become chronic.

While some spinal diagnosis is relatively straightforward (tumors, infections, or fractures), back pain are often complex and multi-factorial. However, getting an accurate diagnosis for back pain is critical since different diagnosis will require different treatment approaches.

At Centers of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, we pride in accurately diagnosing our Placentia, Orange, and Irvine patients through a combination of the following steps to identify the underlying cause of each individual’s back pain:

A review of the patient’s medical history.

CRPM’s staff or Dr. Lai – head physician at Centers of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine will take the time to ask patients a series of questions such as a description of when the back pain, sciatica, or other symptoms occur – how the pain feels, what activities positions, or treatments make the pain feel at ease.

A thorough physical examination is required.

The staff will then conduct a thorough physical exam of the patient such as testing nerve functions and muscle strength in certain parts of the body – testing for pain in certain positions. The series of physical tests will give the spine professional a good idea of the type of back problems that individual has.

Diagnostic Testing – CT Scan or MRI Scan if needed.
Once the source of the patient’s pain is found, a diagnostic test such as a CT scan or MRI scan is recommended in order to confirm the presence of the suspected cause of the pain’s location. Patient’s may be recommended individualized treatment plans or pain management injections if associated with pinched nerves.
